The CCH Philosophy

The mission of College Connections Hawaii is to improve educational opportunities for the people of Hawaii.

Educational achievement matters: personally, financially, intellectually, emotionally, socially...

But some have less educational opportunity than others because of no access to supplemental services, less financial means, lower expectations, fewer role models, no peer support, misinformation, less confidence, and other factors that have nothing to do with academic ability.

CCH believes this is unacceptable.

In pursuit of our mission, CCH holds these core beliefs:

It's about learning - CCH understands the need for measuring achievement--grades, test scores, and where you go to college are important, and CCH is dedicated to bringing out the best in every student. But beyond the numbers, it is even more important that students enjoy learning, strive for higher achievement, become more confident, and find the educational future that is best for them.

Value education - Some have wondered why, as a nonprofit organization, CCH doesn't provide all its services for free.  We believe that education is an investment one makes to become a better person.  When that investment is made, there is a commitment to learn.  Furthermore, those fees help make CCH accessible to low-income students who have been underserved by for-profit providers.

Value educators - CCH believes that teachers, counselors, school personnel and others involved in education are too often undercompensated, undervalued, and undersupported.  We need to rally around our children and our schools.  We also value our own CCH educators by rewarding excellence and trusting in their professional commitment to continually become better teachers.

Positive and innovative - CCH doesn't know or care "who is to blame" for underperforming students or schools.  At CCH, it's all about solutions and opening doors, one student at a time.  We spend all our time thinking up and trying out new ways to inspire more students.

Trust and respect - We have high expectations of our students, parents and ourselves.  We trust in every person's ability to be responsible and make decisions.  People don't need condescending and patronizing instruction from "experts."  People do need information, guidance, inspiration, encouragement, coaching and meaningful feedback.

Strive and grow - We know our limitations.  There are always students and communities that we can't yet reach.  CCH will continually strive to grow until all people in Hawaii can reach their educational potential.  Learn more about us, tell your friends, apply for a job, volunteer, make a donation, and join the movement!
