Finding the right path to higher education has never been more important. Education impacts our personal growth and happiness, expands our professional opportunities in a 21st century economy, and increases our ability to contribute to our communities. It takes significant time, perseverance, and hard work, and College Connections is here to help.
Our goal is help all Hawaii students find the right fit for higher education, one student at a time. Our individual advising services are personalized to each student’s passions, talents, and aspirations. Professional advisors work with high school students in the following areas:
• High School Academic Advising
• Career and College Exploration
• Admissions and Placement Test Preparation
• College Applications, Personal Essays, Resumes
• Financial Aid and Scholarship Searches
Throughout all College Connections services, our advisors help students develop their own goals and seek their own paths. While we support students and families in finding higher education options that make sense for them, we know it’s each student’s hard work that opens the doors to the future.
As part of our commitment to expanding college access in Hawaii, College Connections launched the Native Hawaiian Scholars Program in 2005. This program relies on cultural and community-based support to increase the number of Native Hawaiian students who attend and graduate from college. We work with nearly 500 students and families from communities across all islands, supporting students who are in college or on their way to college.
Native Hawaiian Scholars Program participants receive help with all aspects the college exploration, application, and financial aid processes. When students go on to college, they become part of the Hawaiian Undergraduate Initiative (HUI). Advisors continue helping with academic advising and financial aid assistance.
This program is made possible by initial funding from the Lumina Foundation, and ongoing support from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Native Hawaiian Education Act grants program. Enrollment for the Native Hawaiian Scholars Program is currently closed. Please check back for new applications in the spring and summer of 2010.
