The SAT Reasoning Test (SAT)

The SAT examination tests critical reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning. Many colleges and universities use SAT scores as a factor in admissions decisions. The SAT exam is typically taken by high school students in fall of their senior year or spring of their junior year.

Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)

The PSAT is typically administered to high school juniors. This test provides practice for the SAT exam, and is also used to determine which students are eligible for National Merit recognition. The PSAT/NMQST is typically taken by students in the fall of their sophomore or junior years.

Registration for PSAT Team classes is restricted to PSAT Team members only. Team members were notified by mail on March 14th, 2008. Criteria for qualification are based upon meeting one or both of the following:

  1. Scores on the PLAN test are at or above the 96 percentile with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher
  2. A cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher

Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT)

The SSAT exam is administered to students, in grades five through ten, seeking admission to a private secondary school. Many of Hawaii’s private schools use SSAT results as part of the data on which they base admissions decisions.

The COMPASS exam is a computer-adaptive test typically administered to high school seniors and graduates entering community college. The test helps place students into appropriate courses and provides valuable information to schools need to ensure student success.
