College Prep Timeline

12th Grade August to September

Last chance to secure the help of a professional College Advisor.

Decide on a final list (5-6) colleges of varying selectivity (long shots or "reach" schools, good shots, and sure shots or "back-up" schools) and contact them to request application materials.

Make an application calendar in order to keep the process organized. Avoid procrastination and meet all deadlines.

Search for independent scholarships, based on your activities, affiliations, ethnic background, career interests, etc. Request application materials for qualifying scholarships/contests.

Establish a calendar for completing scholarship applications, which may involve more essays and recommendation letters.

Distribute recommendation letters to teachers or other adults who know you well and can write articulately about your scholastic abilities.

Finalize and have someone proofread your essay response.
